Peak + HYROX: A New Standard for Training Like an Athlete

At Peak Human Performance, we truly believe everyone has athletic potential and that every adult is still an athlete.

Not just the ones on ESPN.

Not just the ones in their 20s.

All of us.

As I reflected recently on the eve of my 42nd birthday, I contemplated what I wanted for myself over the coming decade. I reflected on the moments over the last 20 years in which I felt like I was really “dialed in,” and a core thread within all of those high points was the connection to competition.

I was an athlete for years, starting at 7 years old. This progressed through my mid-20s until an accident left me not feeling confident in my ability to withstand the “intensity” of training like I used to.

Then I realized that this isn’t about training like I used to, it’s about training like I can. Who I am now, where I am now and knowing that I am capable of more.

Add in all the things that have been added to my life over the last decade, and in this next chapter, I am ready to add “athlete” back to my identity.

I have always worked out; I have done a few things here and there, a race, a weekend basketball game, and so on. But nothing has made me experience that feeling of, “Oh, this is serious,” and that’s precisely where HYROX fits in.

Peak is an Official HYROX Affiliate Training Club — bringing the world’s premier fitness race to our city, and creating a clear, powerful path for you to train with purpose.

What Is HYROX?

HYROX is a global fitness race designed to test strength, conditioning, and mental grit. It combines functional exercises with endurance work in a way that feels both raw and rewarding.

As I have observed the sport over the last few years, I have come to see it as a great competition that fits somewhere between a marathon for those who don’t enjoy running as much and obstacle course races like the Spartan Race and The Warrior Dash but with a significantly lower risk of injury due to environmental uncertainty.

The exercise selection for the workouts was initially designed in the same fashion as the ideology from which I used to create the 10 Human Movement Principles. It was created with the idea of focusing on the movements that are innate to human development: carrying things, pushing things, pulling things, and running. This race is designed for everyone without all the complexity of barbells, technical lifts, and gymnastics most often associated with CrossFit.

Understanding The Race Breakdown

A standard race consists of the following:

  • 8 x 1K runs
  • Each is followed by one functional workout station

The stations include:

  • Ski Erg
  • Sled Push
  • Sled Rope Pull
  • Burpee Broad Jumps
  • Row Erg
  • Farmers Carries
  • Sandbag Lunges
  • Wall Balls

This format isn’t about showing off.

It’s about showing up — again and again — for something that asks more from you and returns even more in kind.

Why HYROX Fits The Peak Philosophy

At Peak, we don’t train people to just “lose weight” or “get in shape.”

We train people to:

  • Move like athletes
  • Think like leaders
  • Recover like pros
  • And live with purpose

HYROX perfectly embodies that mission.

It’s not about being the fastest or strongest in the room.

It’s all about:

  • Doing hard things (on purpose)
  • Building physical and mental resilience
  • And remembering what it feels like to chase something that actually matters

Let’s face it: life is full of resistance, which is why we must build our mental and physical fortitude.

But I believe that if we can teach our bodies and minds to meet resistance with clarity, composure, and drive, then we aren’t just becoming fitter — we’re becoming more powerful, more resilient human beings.

I desire this for myself, and I believe every client who steps into Peak is also looking for it in their own way.

What to Expect: Physical, Mental, and Community Wins

While joining a HYROX competition may not be for everyone, you can still participate in the training itself to gain the same physical and mental benefits of preparing for a competition.

Joining the HYROX training classes means you’ll be part of a structured, challenging, and progressive plan that prepares you for the real thing. This approach is no different from how we approach every group class, athlete program, and private client training plan: based on science and delivered with expert attention and care.

You’ll train with others who are all working toward the same goal—whether that’s entering the race for the first time, setting a personal record, or simply building the habit of showing up when it counts.

You can expect:

  • Group classes that combine structured interval work with functional movements that align with our training ethos
  • Skill development and conditioning blocks tied directly to the race formats
  • Strategy coaching on how to pace, fuel, and mentally prepare for the challenges of each section
  • A community that holds you accountable (and makes it fun)

This isn’t about chaos.

It’s not about crushing yourself in the name of calorie burn.

It’s about training like you mean it, recovering with intention, and progressing every week, just like we always talk about.

Why Now?

Because the truth is, without something to aim at, it’s easy to plateau. No one hates feeling like they’re just “going through the motions” more than I do.

Training for HYROX gives you a deadline, a purpose, and a reason to train hard, eat well, sleep deeply, and recover fully.

It puts the momentum in motion.

It gives you a finish line that can change how you see yourself, not just as someone who works out but as someone who shows up when it matters most in every area of your life.

Are you in?

If you’ve been looking for something to re-ignite your fire — this is it.

Let’s train together, race together, and grow together.

You’re still an athlete.

And this is your next arena.
