Introduction
Welcome to the first post in our Ascension Training Series, Peak Human Performance’s three-phase system for helping clients build lasting strength, fitness, and confidence the smart way.
Over the next three blog posts, I’ll share insights that will challenge the mainstream approaches to fitness, empower you with actual, actionable knowledge, and show you what works for creating sustainable, long-term success.
Along the way, I’ll also break down the science-backed, client-tested, results-proven methods we use at Peak Human Performance to take the guesswork out of training — so you can invest your time, energy, and resources wisely.
Today, we’re starting where every great journey should begin: at the start with BUILDING YOUR BASE.
It’s crazy to think, but I have officially been in the coaching profession for over twenty years—and let me tell you, I’ve seen a lot. Yet even after all this time, one mistake remains the same: most people skip the critical first step.
Instead of laying a strong foundation, they turn to quick-fix approaches that seem exciting at first… but ultimately lead to exhaustion, injuries, and a loss of motivation.
The story usually goes something like this:
- Something triggers awareness that you’re not taking care of yourself the way you could.
- You get curious starting looking around at options.
- For simplicity, you return to “what worked” when you were 25… and jump in.
- Or you can try the “cost-effective” route—join a $20-a-month gym, follow random influencer workouts on Instagram or YouTube, and hope for the best.
In theory, there’s nothing wrong with this.
Going from nothing to something is still a step forward.
But even with the best of intentions, most people end up making one of two critical mistakes:
- They jump straight into an intense program that beats them up before they’ve built the basics. (Hint: you have to build a base if you want to stay healthy.)
OR
- They start “light” without a clear plan and lose motivation when the early progress stalls. (Spoiler: doing the same booty-band YouTube workouts 4x a week will only get you so far.)
The sad fact is that neither of these two paths leads to the lasting results you want.
For years, I watched this and tried to explain to clients that starting slowly and building a strong base was the way to go. Of course, I was met with resistance, and I would hear things like, ” But I’m stronger than this,” or “I feel like I am not pushing myself enough because I’m not sore afterward.”
Over time, I realized that most people who think this way don’t know what good training should feel like and are trying to rush the process.
They want to fast-track their results, and here is why this approach doesn’t work:
- When you rush and neglect to build a base of strength or conditioning, you create room for collapse. If you don’t learn the form, you can get hurt very quickly. Muscles adapt faster than tendons and ligaments, so progressive adaptation is always best.
- When you rush, you skip over the development of the habits required for continuing successfully after you’ve accomplished your goals. Your habits got you where you are today, but changing your habits will take you where you want to go next.
- When you rush, you adopt a mindset focused on the “prize,” creating a negative cycle of stress. Instead, attune your focus to the “process,” allowing you to consistently identify small wins. This approach will keep you engaged and positive for the long haul.
This is precisely why we built The Ascension Training Series, a series of three focused training programs designed to help clients go from “just getting started” to “strong and confident.”
The series starts with FOUNDATIONS, an 8-week program designed to build functional movement quality, enhance muscle strength, and improve flexibility from the ground up.
This program encourages and empowers participants to move with confidence throughout their daily lives, knowing they are setting themselves up to achieve their goals safely.
Your “FOUNDATION” Matters More Than You Think
Believe me, when I say this, your body is like a high-performance car.
No matter how you feel right now, your body is incredible at adapting, and all you need to do is give it the correct input and time to calibrate.
Think about it like this: What if you had a vintage sports car that’s been in the garage for a while collecting dust? Maybe it’s even been abused a bit, missing regular tune-ups, and so on.
Regardless of its current condition, it still has all the necessary components to look good and go fast; it just needs a proper tune-up and the right fuel.
Consider your body as this beautifully impressive machine just waiting to be fine-tuned.
Going back to the car analogy, what if you don’t tune up the engine properly? What if you rush a few steps or use cheap parts? What sort of outcome should you expect?
Or, what if instead of doing a proper tune-up, you “just get it running” and take off down the street going 100 mph without making sure it’s ready for that kind of stress?
The answer is that you’re asking for serious problems. Again, your body is no different.
Think of the FOUNDATIONS program as the tune-up your body needs to get back on the road again.
It’s where you:
- Restore mobility and posture that real life (and desk jobs) has likely chipped away at.
- Rebuild strength within your core, where powerful and pain-free movement starts.
- Build your conditioning to handle more work, thus turning on your metabolic “fire” without creating unnecessary wear and tear on the rest of the body.
The reality of this process is that it’s not about moving slowly forever. It’s about setting a sustainable pace early so you can move better, faster, and stronger when it’s time.
What Makes FOUNDATIONS Different?
Unlike generic “beginner workouts” or random classes, FOUNDATIONS is strategic.
- Every session is carefully programmed to progress clients through a clear path to progress that follows the following stages:
- move well ➔ move stronger ➔ move harder ➔ move longer.
- Every workout builds on the previous one, helping you feel yourself gain strength and experience measurable progress every week.
- Every step is guided by a professional coach who knows when to challenge you and when to help you focus on mastering the basics.
This means:
- No guessing.
- No wasting time.
- No “winging it” and hoping for the best.
Just a clear, proven system designed to get you moving toward your goals without setbacks.
The Big Picture: Your First Step in a Larger Journey
At Peak, FOUNDATIONS is the first step in a focused approach to the success path.
Here’s how it all connects: FOUNDATIONS ➔ 60 LEAN ➔ 85 STRONG
- FOUNDATIONS ➔ Focuses on developing core strength, breathing, and movement quality, all within the 10 Human Movement Principles format.
- 60 LEAN ➔ This is the second stage of the program, and it builds upon FOUNDATIONS to ramp up fat loss by introducing metabolic conditioning with “smart intensity” and targeted resistance training.
- 85 STRONG ➔ Is the last step in this three-part approach and helps clients learn to lift heavier, execute plyometrics, and increase sprinting technique to build stronger joints and resilient muscles.
Each phase builds on the one before it. That’s why our clients don’t just start strong – they stay strong.
Is FOUNDATIONS Right for You?
You don’t have to be “out of shape” to start with FOUNDATIONS.
You just have to be interested and ready to:
- Rebuild your base after time away from regular exercise or training.
- Start your fitness journey in a smart, sustainable way.
- Create real momentum without injury or burnout.
If you’re tired of starting and stopping…
If you’re ready to actually make this the year you feel good in your body again…
If you want a clear path to progress (instead of another dead end)…
FOUNDATIONS is where it begins.
